Needs Analysis to Develop the Materials for English as a General Course for Non-English Department Students

Developing appropriate resources for a language learning programme, including those English as general course, is pivotal in order the students’ to be successful. Prior development, needs should assessed so that materials developer obtains comprehensive view of what students need. This study aims investigate develop course non-English Department students. The research was conducted at Universitas Tidar and involved 240 from different departments. Quantitative employed approach study, data were collected by using questionnaire. findings show are motivated learn their potential careers future global communication. In addition, claim they need master listening, speaking, reading, writing skill, well grammar pronunciation. Further, consider listening most difficult macro skill challenging aspect learn. Meanwhile, relation topics, everyday, academic, professional purpose among points covered materials. regard activity design, in-class activities enthusiastic about practicing pronunciation, vocabulary, watching English-language videos; meanwhile, prefer create videos work on project assignment. Moreover, feel when working groups rather than pairs individually.
